WHAT IS FALLOPIAN TUBE RECANALIZATION?

Fallopian tube recanalization is a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure used in cases where infertility is caused by a blocked or obstructed tube. It is mainly used in women who are having trouble conceiving. At least one blocked fallopian tube can be opened in 90 percent of cases to help restore normal function.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

After placing a speculum into the vagina, a very small tube was passed into the uterus followed by an injection of a small amount of liquid called contrast. If blockage is confirmed, a small catheter is threaded into the blocked tube in order to open it.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS OF FALLOPIAN TUBE RECANALIZATION?

  • Less complication rates when compared to surgery.
  • Fast recovery.
  • The procedure is done on an outpatient basis and the patient goes home directly after the procedure.
  • Fast procedure which takes about 30 – 60 minutes.

GETTING READY FOR THE PROCEDURE:

  • The procedure is scheduled during the sixth and eleventh days of the menstrual period.
  • Antibiotics may be prescribed to be taken before the procedure.
  • The procedure is expected to take about 30 – 60 minutes.
  • Patient can be discharged home directly after the procedure.
  • A minimal amount of vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain is expected after the procedure and can be managed by oral pain relief medications,
  • The patient can return to daily routine activities and sexual intercourse the following day.
